Reno’s Historical Fountain now at Amtrak

There is a wonderful new appearance of a very old historical fountain now living at the Union Pacific Amtrak Reno Station and you might just want to saunter down there to behold this item. The fountain was originally commissioned and dedicated on October 17, 1908 by the Women’s Christian Temperance Union for the Nevadans that fought in the Spanish American War.

What makes this steel and iron fountain so unusual is that it was designed for people, horses and dogs! Each section has a porcelain trough, bowl or bubble fountain depending on who was quenching. Also, the fountain doubled as a street light with 3 large globes 14 feet above the street. Restored over the last four years by local metal artist Christopher De Witt, we think you did a marvelous job!
