Gorgeous Balloons and Next Fast Planes…

Last weekend, if you attended the famous Burning Man Evolution Celebration in the Black Rock Desert which was epic (I recommend that everyone one see’s the burning man once in their life) you will probably think that the Balloon Races this weekend and the Reno Air Races next weekend are pretty tame events.

However, they are without a doubt magical and it’s time to circle back to Reno for the mass ascension of the balloons and the amazing races at Stead. Over 100 balloons are scheduled to be lifting off and you can start watching the dawn patrol at 5:00 am tomorrow morning and on Sunday again if you miss tomorrow.

Location is the Rancho San Rafael Regional Park at 1595 N. Sierra Street off of McCarren. It’s all free and fun for the entire family. www.renoballoonraces.com

Then after the Balloon Races you can jimmy up to Virginia City and watch the Camel Races which start at 1:00 pm on Sat/Sun along E Street.  Or maybe a little Professional Bull Riding is the ticket for the day and you can see all the best cowboys at the Lawlor Events Center at the University of Nevada at 6:00 pm on Saturday and 2:00 pm on Sunday.

For the foodies, go to Northstar and mingle at the Lake Tahoe Autumn Food and Wine Festival which is serving global dishes and spirits from noon on Saturday and Sunday. Yummy.

Lots to do, and if you just want to hike and be in the wilderness try the White’s Creek climb, 10 miles round trip off of the Galena, in the Mt Rose Wilderness. The creek is raging, there are still wild flowers, lots of Aspens and fabulous views.

Next week is the famous Reno Air Races and the weather looks perfect. Buckle up. Be safe the Nevada Highway Patrol is out in force.
